I’m supposed to be packing for a trip to California, so, naturally, I’ve decided to respond to Linda Ng’s ten question writing prompt about traveling instead.

What’s your best overall traveling hack?

If a hotel gives you a room you don’t like, politely ask for a different room. If you also reject the next room they offer you? They’ll realize you mean business, and the third room they offer you will be great. I know this is good advice because the essay I wrote about it was picked up by Chicken Soup for the Soul:

Do you pack the day before you go or the week or month before you go?

The day before. But I have a list that contains everything I’m going to need. So all I have to do is grab everything on the list and put in the suitcase.
