AMEN to this.

I learned this as a child when my dad, the sole breadwinner of our family, had a heart attack and was unable to work for a long time.

My mother, an "at home mom" with a mortgage to pay and two young daughters, suddenly had to fend for herself.

To this day, I'm not even sure how she managed to keep the household going until my dad could work again. But she taught her daughters that being able to support ourselves as adults wasn't optional.
