Girls weren't allowed to wear shorts when I was in high school in the 1960s

Nobody protested.

Culottes, which are basically shorts that are fashioned to look like a skirt, become popular at that time and several of us tried to wear them to school to sneak past the dress code.

I got away with it a few times but every time I was caught wearing culottes I was sent home to change into a dress or a skirt.

Now that I'm 69 and can wear what I please, I haven't worn a dress or a skirt for years.
