There just isn't enough honest writing about what having cancer is actually like. All of the hopeful gung ho pink ribbon bullshit hides the fact that having cancer is a pain in the ass. (I haven't had it but a close friend did and I did what I could to help her through it.)
It is a struggle from start to finish and often involves advocating for yourself when you have no energy and are in pain and exhausted from the treatments.
Ditching that doctor was a great move -- and it couldn't have been easy.
