I Love to Check My Stats

And It’s Not Because They’re Always So Wonderful

I just read yet another post by a Medium writer who vowed to stop compulsively checking her stats, and complained about what a downer that was.

Not for me! I love to check my stats.

And it isn’t because I’m so successful that my stats are in the stratosphere.

Far from it.

I don’t have the kind of wild success that certain Medium writers are always boasting about.

I’ve never made thousand of dollars on a story.

My average take for a Medium post? Ten dollars.

I still love to check my stats.

Why? It’s a metric that can only go up.

Unlike, for instance, the stock market. Or the amount of money in my bank account.

A few days ago, I published this story:

When I checked my stats an hour later? It had just 12 views and 7 reads.
