I try to engage with everyone who actually engages with my work. This was easier when I first started out.

It became impossible once I was getting more than 100 reads a day.

I do my best to respond to comments, and to read as much of the work of the writers who read me as I can.

But at a certain point you have to make a choice between writing something new yourself or reading the work of other writers.

There are popular writers on this platform who almost never engage with readers because it's inefficient. The thought is that those readers would be better served by that writer creating new content.

This clearly works for them -- they remain quite popular -- but not for me.

Being on Medium for the fun of it is the only reason that makes any sense.
