I used to write for News Break but I stopped when they stopped guaranteeing a minimum monthly payment and requiring that stories have a local angle.

I wrote about that decision here:

I know writers who are still making money on News Break. But not LOTS of money. They are people who can focus on local newsworthy events and write them up and post them quickly.

Newswork does NOT pay as much as more established magazines and websites -- but since I haven't been writing for them in over a year, I don't actually know what they currently pay.

If you like writing local stories, you might sign on and see if it works for you. If it doesn't end up paying that much, you will have developed a skill set and probably also a set of local contacts that could serve you well if you try to sell local stories to local, more conventional outlets that pay.
