I was involuntarily retired from the library job I loved during the pandemic.

Three years later, I've only retained one friend from my library days.

But she's a good one! We had dinner together two nights ago.

I realized that although I had plenty of folks at work I was friendly with, once we no longer had the job in common, we didn't have any reason to be friends.

But Maria and I enjoy each other's company and never run out of things to say. I feel lucky that my job brought me a good friend like this.
