I'm a woman who has never worn make-up, which is considered so strange that when I wrote an essay about it, it was published in the Sunday "Styles" section of the New York Times. I received hundreds of comments, not a small number of which were from male readers who took one look at my profile photo and said "You should definitely be wearing make-up."

Both my ex husband and the man I was with for 20 years after that marriage broke up proclaimed often that they preferred women who didn't wear make-up. And they both currently with women who wear lots of it.

I enjoyed your article and hope that it makes people think.
