In my case, that depends on who the others are and how much I care about offending them or hurting their feelings.

A lot of writers have chosen to write under pen names because they don't want to deal with the emotional fallout that would result from, for instance, writing about bad bosses or challenging family members.

I respect that.

Ultimately, though, I agree with you -- you own your own story and have every right to tell if under your own name, if that is your choice.
