My dad, who was a psychanalyst, often told us "Never take away anyone's right to complain."

Which is another way of saying that each of us is fully entitled to recognize and mourn our own losses.

There isn't a Grief Olympics. Nobody is winning or losing this race. We all hurt at times and we all need to be able to express that pain in order to begin to heal.
