One of the things I tell the writers I work with is "You aren't submitting your work to the New York Times. You're submitting your work to a person who works as an editor at the New York Times."

You can substitute the name of any pub -- including, of course, Medium pubs -- for the Times.

At least until AI takes over everything, writing and publishing is about PEOPLE.
