Perhaps I'd be a terrific partner -- but my ex husband sure didn't think so!

I think the stereotype of the Sad Old Spinster is so baked into the way we think about single women my age that it's almost impossible for somebody not to project their sense of sadness about women going solo onto me.

Which is to say that I anticipate that yours won't be the only "This is kind of sad" response I get to this piece.

Part of why I wrote this piece was to push back against that a bit.
