The Giving Tree has always creeped me out. But I prefer children's books that either have no underlying message or whose underlying message is so subtle that it goes right over my head.

Which is why I loved the Narnia books. They were totally about Christianity but I was a little Jewish girl so I had no idea that the lion was Jesus.
