This is So important! They should teach financial literacy in school. But they don't. So I set out to teach myself about personal finance when I was in my 20s. By reading those same popular finance books.

As a result of what I'd learned, I bought and held onto a plain old vanilla Vanguard S&P 500 index fund and added money whenever I could.

I also bought Google and Amazon early and held onto those too.

At 69, I can easily afford my life, while continuing to do the work -- editing -- that I enjoy, on a part time basis.
