This make sense to me, based upon my own experience on Medium.

Although I have 10.7K Medium followers, it is only my "loyal tribe of 100-200" who reliably read my work.

Still, that, plus the folks who only read occasionally, and the other folks who turn up out of the blue and only read one or twice, are enough for me to meet my personal Medium goal of 500+ reads a day.
