Why are People Voting for Trump?
Here’s what I think
I totally get why Elon Musk supports Trump. Donald Trump has made it very clear that he plans to support the interests of billionaires.
I also understand why certain pragmatic voters don’t like Donald Trump as a person but are going to hold their noses and vote for him because they think he’ll be better at protecting their particular interests than Kamala Harris will.
For instance? I know several straight white men, seniors like me, who believe that Trump will make the world better place for straight white men. And they’d rather live in that world.
I’d rather not live in that world myself but I understand why they would.
There are pro-lifers who will vote for Trump because he once promised to appoint Supreme Court judges who would reverse Roe v. Wade — and he kept that promise. They’re hoping that now he’ll give them a nationwide abortion ban. And he just might.
There are people who believe that the borders to this country should be closed. They plan to vote for Trump too.
Some voters embrace Trump because they, like Trump are racists and/or misogynists.
A lot of people will vote for him because they actually believe his lies.
Others don’t believe a word he says but will vote for him anyway to “combat woke” or “own the libs.”
I have friends who think that anyone who plans to vote for Trump is an idiot.
But I also have friends and family members who plan to vote for Trump. And they’re not idiots. They’re as smart as I am. But? They don’t share my values. Plus they also watch too damn much Fox TV.
I’ve heard fellow progressives say that if Trump’s supporters learned more about him they’d be as repulsed as we are and would refuse to vote for him
They’re dreaming.
The folks who plan to vote for Trump know exactly what they’ll get if he wins. They’re looking forward to getting it. And one of the things they’ll get is the frustrated rage of those of us who can’t stand him.
This isn’t very nice reason to vote. In fact, it’s pretty repugnant. But it’s real.
So? Let’s not give these folks what they want.
VOTE BLUE.
