Yes, the train’s engineer would have no doubt been traumatised.

I once spoke at length with an engineer on Amtrak who had experienced somebody committing suicide by standing on the track so the train would hit him. The engineer sounded the horn and tried to stop the train even though he knew he couldn’t stop the train in time. It hit the guy and he died and the engineer was still having nightmares about it decades later. He had serious PTSD.
