You could still turn this tale into a humor piece and submit it to a paying humor market, like the Funny Times. Just a suggestion. It's a unique and very funny story -- and you figure out a way to get the last laugh, which is one of the reasons that it's so compelling.

I'm not saying that you should rewrite this telling of the story. This works just fine as it is. But you could write a slightly different version that would work as a humor piece.
